2 Steps Forward, 1 Step Back - A weightloss update

I hate the term "Yo-Yo Dieting" but more than the name, I hate that I do it. And re-do it and –you get the point. I see and hear lots of folks talk about losing weight only to regain it and then some. Anyone who has ever tried to shed a few pounds knows exactly what I am talking about here.

Over the years (I guestimated 22.5 yrs) I have learned and picked up a few philosophies to help me fight the battle of the bulge.
  • Never go more than a week without stepping on the scale
  • Try not to let the number determine my mood (For better or worse)
  • Use the term diet in reference to what I consume, not a set length of time for following rules
  • My scale doesn't measure in terms of all or nothing
  • My jeans don't lie
  • This is a lifelong journey
I am sure there are others, but these are the overarching principles that help me keep things in perspective.

I had high hopes to lose 28 lbs by the 4th of July, but I did not reach my goal. In fact, I never really got into the exercise swing of things. By the end of June I was no longer tracking my calories and by mid July I had started putting on some of the 12.5 lbs I originally shed. (8 of those pounds to be exact).

So last week, I decided I had had enough and made an effort to regain my focus. I started tracking my calories and just that in itself helped as I dropped 5 of those pounds (again). With my pre-Ella weight once again in near sight, I continue on my weight-loss journey.

This week (as much as I am totally dreading it) I will be helping at a soccer camp. It is 100˚-something and insanely humid but I plan to run around with the kiddos as much as I can keep up. I am hoping this is the exercise jolt I need.

Then, this weekend, I will be rewarding myself with a girls' trip so hopefully the 2 balance each other out.

I totally understand what you are saying. I have been doing my best to lose weight. Since May...I have only dropped 5 pounds..I am excersing and counting calories, and it doesn't seem to be doing much. Its hard to not get frustrated. Its hard to stay motivated too. Good luck!
