Town & Country Sports Review

Last night I took Alex and Anna for our first venture to Town & Country. We stopped in on Sunday and signed up for a free week trial, got the tour, picked up the schedules of all the classes offered and the kids played around on some of the kid friendly equipment. Last night we went for our first workout.

Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 7:00-8:00 pm they have a kids fitness class. We had no idea what to expect and honestly I thought my kids would hate it (not that I told them this), but they seemed excited to go. We got there a few minutes late since I don't get home from work until 6:00. That doesn't leave a whole lot of time to cook dinner, get everyone fed, change into workout clothes and load back up for the 15 minute drive.

Once they were signed in and with the group, I headed upstairs to the cardio machines that over-looked the gym they were playing in so I could spy on what was going on (I was totally curious what activities they would be doing and how my kids would react to this class). I hopped on a great elliptical trainer. It had a built in TV and unfortunately I didn't bring any headphones (note to self for next time) so I had to watch Entertainment Tonight without the sound. I was also thinking it would be hot up there (we were all pretty warm on our Sunday visit and it just looked stuffy upstairs) but I was pleasantly surprised they had fans blowing on everyone so it was pretty comfortable.

Once I was programmed-up and pedaling away I was able to observed the kids' class. They did a lot of relay races with running, hopping, skipping and some with a basketball and some shooting drills. There were probably 12-15ish kids in the class and most looked between 2nd-4th grade. I am pretty sure Alex was the oldest. All the kids seemed to be enjoying themselves which was awesome. Alex and Anna were the faster kids there and it was a great confidence booster for them since they are not the most athletically inclined. If I had to break down the class, there were several younger boys maybe 2nd graders that were pretty good athletes, then the other 1/2 - 2/3 of the class were somewhat older kids that weren't so gifted with a sports skill-set but it was sort of the perfect mix.

After it was over, I asked the kids what they thought and they both liked it. Not too exhausted but they got some physical activity and seemed to have fun while I got a 40 minute workout so I couldn't ask for more.

Well, actually I can always ask for more.
  • I wish they would sink up their classes so the kids class was at the same time as the grown up classes. The elliptical trainer was fine, but I have one at home. I would have rather been doing kickboxing or some other strength class but those start at 6:30 or 7:30.
  • I hope they start offering more classes for the kids.
  • As always, free would be better.
Tonight the kids are excited to go back. Tuesdays the classes are in the pools and we have yet to go swimming. I am taking Ella so she can have fun too though I won't get in nearly as much exercise with her there.

We still haven't decided if we will join for sure and if so, what package to go with.

Decisions, decisions...

If you end up joining I could really use a workout partner.
