School's Out for Summer!!!!!!!

I am sure if I was a stay-at-home mom, I may not be quite as ecstatic as I am right now that school is wrapping up. Yes summer brings its own complications from a scheduling standpoint (who is watching the kids when, where and coordinating what kids goes to what camp and transportation arrangements) but I will take it hands down over the nightly struggle with homework ANYTIME! And not packing lunches, snacks, water bottles and washing uniforms is always a plus too.

I feel like I am just able to breath during the summer. I don't have to be so strict on bedtime. The kids get more exercise so I can say yes to the occasional treats more often and not have to play bad cop all the time. I may even indulge in a Happy Hour or two after work because I don't have to rush home to tackle dinner, homework, baths etc in a 3 hour window.

In a perfect world, the temperature would be 82-85˚F, 0% humidity, no mosquitos (and I would have gotten into the swim club this year). But even with the 90-95+˚F temps, 100% humidity, smog alerts and bug infestation (and going into the 8th year on the waiting list), I will still take it.

I look forward to the 4th of July, summer festivals, getting out the Slip-n-slide, watching Ella experience her first real summer, seeing fire flies for the first time, family get-togethers, maybe even getting a treat from the Ice-Cream Truck.

Sure my kids will have summer reading and workbooks to complete, but I have no nightly papers to sign and we can do it all at our own pace.

And don't get me wrong, my kids don't suddenly morph into angles the second they cross our threshold, I will bribe them to avoid the battles to do their work. $1.00 for every 10 pages read or something to that effect. We keep a chart. At the end of summer they can use their money to get themselves something. Not perfect, but it helps minimize the whining.

So, cheers to a fabulous summer. I'd love to hear what your favorite parts are.

Hey, looks like I can leave comments on Blogger again! Yay!

Let me know when you want to meet up at King's Island. I'm looking to do that a lot this summer. It's about time we got a family excursion together.

My kiddos are still young enough that summers dont change much for us. Except for the heat and bugs like you mentioned. I do enjoy the get togethers that seem to happen every weekend. I love that!

I was really happy about the uniforms at first. I thought it would save a lot of trouble as far as picking out/fighting about what to wear. Then came the "Oh crap, do we have any uniforms clean??"
